That by-election

Well, the by-election has come and gone. The one thing we are certain of is that in politics, sometimes the smoke is greater than the fire. For this reason, I was not surprised by the Jamaica Labour Party's impressive victory in the recently held West Portland by-election. This is not to detract from the substance of the achievement earned by the member of parliament-designate Daryl Vaz, nor is it intended to diminish the excellent organisational skills of campaign manager Robert Montague. In fact, the JLP deserves kudos for putting together a superb ground organisation that clearly surpassed the once elusive magical prowess of the People's National Party.
