The [Finance Ministry
has received a well-needed boost for its coffers through a European Commission (EU) two billion dollar presentation.
The money was provided through the Commission’s ongoing budget supportprogram and is designed to prop up the government’s divestment of the sugar sector and to give general budget support to the Bruce Golding administration.
The head of the European Commission’s delegation to Jamaica Ambassador Marco Mazzocchi-Alemani this morning gave the Golding administration high marks for its handling of the economy.
He urged the government to continue on its path and to take the tough decisions necessary to help the country survive the global economic crisis.
In response, Prime Minister Golding applauded the European Commission for its continued support to Jamaica and other developing countries.
Mr. Golding said the administration was prepared to implement the measures needed and would signal its intention in the 2009-2010 budget.
