The police in Portland are reporting that there have been flare-ups among supporters of the two main political parties in the West Portland constituency ahead of the March 23 by-election.
The hostility has reportedly raised concerns from residents, who are fearful that if the situation is not monitored by the police, it could get worse.
The police report that some supporters at Wood Stock and Nelson Street have engaged in issuing threats.
The police were reportedly called in to quell what was threatening to be an ugly incident among JLP and PNP supporters along Thompson Avenue in Buff Bay last night.
The police say supporters of the JLP and the PNP, who were involved in verbal clashes and bottle throwing, were warned to desist from such practices and outburst.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding and other members of the JLP hierarchy are scheduled to tour the constituency later today to meet with supporters and party workers.
The PNP campaign team headed by party leader Portia Simpson-Miller is to continue its campaign and canvassing in the communities of Hart Hill and Windsor Castle.
The JLP’s Daryl Vaz will face off with the PNP’s Kenneth Rowe, and Independent Candidate, Ras Astor Black in the March 23 by-election.
