A search is on for an Air Jamaica employee who allegedly swindled the airline of more than US$700,000 or J$61 million.
The Police Fraud Squad Thursday night confirmed that the employee has fled the island but did not release his identity.
It is alleged that on several occasions between January and early last month, the man wired the money from an Air Jamaica account to his personal overseas account.
Sources told RJR News that after the airline commenced an investigation into the missing money, the employee hurriedly left for lunch and never returned.
They believe he left for Trinidad and Tobago on February 3 where he might still be hiding.
The police say Air Jamaica only reported the matter to the Fraud Squad on February 24.
