What began as a joke in a schoolyard turned out to be the wedding of a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl. The 17-year-old boy declared the girl his wife, reciting a Jewish ritual vow in front of witnesses and the girl accepted his ring. That was enough for the Israel's rabbinical court to consummate their marriage. Under Israeli criminal law sexual relations with a 14-year-old are legal as long as her male partner is no more than three years her senior. The girl who was described as the youngest Jewish divorcee in Israel's modern history was, however, granted a rabbinical divorce last week.
