    The word "culture", its definition and the determination of what constitutes "culture" can be an extremely subjective and divisive subject. At its most basic, culture is the representation of a society's knowledge, attitude, values and behaviour.

    I don't think any group or groups of people in a given society can monopolise its culture by claiming it as their own, as culture is created out of a shared collective experience to which all the members of society contribute and build on in some way.

    There are different engines and vehicles for the transmission and reception of culture. The most obvious engine of culture is artistic creativity transported in the vehicle of the media. The digital age, however, has revolutionised our concept of the media which is no longer a vertical one-way construct controlled by the corporate machinery. The internet, for example, gives everyone (with access) a voice and everyone a means to transmit that voice. The other thing about culture is that it is dynamic and constantly evolving as the society grows and changes. In fact, many songs that are now considered classic vintage Jamaican music were not considered fit to be played on air when originally released.
