NEGRIL AND Western Jamaica micro, medium and small enterprises (MSMEs) have long been agitated by loaded tour buses that disregard small- and medium-size businesses and strip visitors of the opportunity to explore an "authentic Jamaican community", according to MSME Chairman Lenbert Williams.
In an effort to showcase Negril's moderate-size businesses, Negril and Western Jamaica MSME created the One Love Drive Shuttle which will aim to patronise businesses located along Negril's bustling West End Road.
Spread the spirit
"The intention of the shuttle is to spread the spirit of one love and the blessings of prosperity," Williams said.
Williams stated that the One Love Drive Shuttle service would help businesses that could not compete with larger establishments become more prosperous by offering aid such as customer-service training, advanced technological products and marketing services. Williams also believes that the shuttle will improve the lives of working-class Jamaicans located along the popular strip.
The free shuttle was launched by Savanna-La Mar Mayor Bertel Moore on Wednesday evening at the Negril Escape Hotel and Spa. Moore said it was a pleasure to assist in launching the shuttle and said he believed that anything that supported making the area a more desirable place was worthwhile.
"We have something that we should preserve," said Moore, referring to the West End area of Negril, "so that in the future you will see a better West End."
The One Love Drive Shuttle service, with its red, green and yellow splendour, will be available to transport passengers to destinations throughout Negril. It will also provide a shuttle service to special local events, such as the upcoming 17th annual Bob Marley Birthday Bash commencing in Negril, February 1, 2009.
Williams said the shuttle will be offered to anyone needing transportation during the celebration. He is excited to collaborate with Bob Marley Birthday Bash Director Clive Pringle to help brand the week-long festivity as a hot commodity to rival the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.
