A top level probe is now in progress into a large gun and ammunition find in Old Harbour in St. Catherine.
Eight illegal guns and more than 100 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized on Sunday night by a team from Operation Kingfish.
One man was arrested.
He is said to be a resident of Montego Bay in St. James.
Spokesman for Operation Kingfish, Detective Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn, said the man was nabbed during a spot check which was conducted shortly after 7 o'clock.
He said investigators believe the guns entered the island through the illegal drugs and guns trade operating between Jamaica and Haiti.
"The team we have in Old Harbour from Kingsfish and the Mobile Reserve were on special assignment in that area when they signaled the driver of a blue Nissan Sunny motor car which was travelling on West Street to stop. The driver complied and following a search of that vehicle we found eight firearms comprising of two rifles, four pistols and two revolvers," said Sergeant Llewellyn.
He said other persons are expected to be arrested soon as the police intensify their clampdown on the trading of illegal guns and narcotics between Jamaica and Haiti.
