The National Workers Union (NWU) said it will take protest action if Air Jamaica goes ahead with its plans to cut jobs and reduce its fleet as part of a major cost cutting exercise at the national carrier.
The union held a meeting with the workers on Monday night to discuss the situation at the airline.
Chief Negotiating Officer of the NWU Granville Valentine told the RJR News Centre the union is strongly opposed to the airline's business plan, which has been approved by the Cabinet.
According to Mr. Valentine, the workers have not been given an opportunity to put forward a counter-plan which could save the airline millions of dollars.
"Our findings have clearly indicated that what is happening at Air Jamaica continues to be mismanagement. They continue to misinform the public and mislead the workers. We have planned with other unions to have a major protest and a major march if needs be,"
"The Minister in charge, Minister [Don] Wehby and Minister [Dwight] Nelson have been talking with us and they have asked us to sit in a meeting to discuss the outstanding issue and clearly indicated that they will put the implementation on hold until those issues are discussed," said Mr. Valentine.
