Gaza can't sing King Alpha's song but Jews might rule the world
Much of the Bible is about sex and real estate and both issues dominate the Middle East to this day. Women wear the hijab or niqab (eye slits only). Men have many wives and virginity is prized in females but not in males. Our biblical God is male, has a male world view, his words were written and interpreted by men. Male wisdom dominates the Bible - the women they slept with, the deals they made, who was gay, whose field was despoiled; father and son not "going unto" the same maid; who won which battle; all-male baths and last suppers. Nothing is feminine; all rough surfaces and hard angles; the affection is virile, macho; no tears, pliancy, warmth or vulnerablity. It says the woman enticed Adam to eat the apple; Ruth is loyal, Sarah is long-suffering and barren, Mary washes men's feet; all stereotyped, one-dimension females, as males see them. Our holy book is laced with who slept with nameless, very disrespected women; who begat whom; which King, loved by God, put his soldier on the frontline so he could claim his widow; father slept with daughter; who masturbated, which town God nuked to kill the sodomites (a threat to men); whom God gave which land bound by which river and whose field was eaten by locusts. Men are goodies; women are baddies, out to get into holy men's pants; men seek God and women try to trip them up. We have no female viewpoint; women are 50 per cent of the population and they are never given expression in the holy book. My experience is not in sync with this scenario. A woman friend once jokingly told me how she would like to "work out the structure" of a certain handsome man. But men spend hours on the phone and Internet to talk and fantasise about women and sex. The biblical musings are not a female God's; these are not from a female brain. The writers tell us these saucy stories; then, they tell us not to mess around a man's lass, or his ass, his slave, his ox or his field; always men speaking to men or men speaking to women. Women have no voice.
