Attempted Azan robbery foiled
One of three men who attempted to rob the Azan Supercentre in Cross Roads, St Andrew, yesterday, was shot dead and another held.
THE STAR learnt that shortly after 10 a.m., the robbers walked into the establishment and demanded money. When their demands were not met, they reportedly brandished handguns and one of the men was shot fatally by a man in plain clothes.
Illegal handgun
The police, who were quickly on the scene, chased and held one of the culprits a short distance away. The third man escaped. An illegal handgun was seized from the dead man.
Curious onlookers gathered outside the establishment as the police were busy collecting forensic evidence. People who came to the nearby tax office were inconvenienced as the area where their vehicles were parked had been cordoned off. Some onlookers expressed regret that all three gunmen had not been killed.
"Yes man. Dem rather dead young more than dead poor, and dem no waan work. Dem could not wait until the sun come up little more, before they come a look free money," said a bystander. "The brown man in plain clothes can really shoot. Dem man deh shoot bird every week; dem a expert. Dem little fool-fool robber yah caan come tek on them people deh. The name of the deceased had not been ascertained up to press time.
