Seventeen persons injured in accident in Portland Saturday, 10 January 2009 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) }Seventeen persons were injured, three of them seriously, when an Isuzu Trooper ploughed into a utility pole near Manchioneal in Portland early Saturday morning.
st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) }Just over three weeks ago 14 persons were killed in the Rio Grande Valley, after a truck plunged into a ravine.
According to the police the accident occurred when the vehicle packed with 17 persons traveling from a wake in the hillside community of Barracks hit a utility pole and then crashed through the wall of a shop near Machioneal.
The injured were taken to the Port Antonio hospital where the three most serious were transferred to the St Ann's Bay Hospital where seven persons were admitted and others treated and sent home.
The identities of the injured persons were unknown.
