    PNP denies that Trafigura millions have been spent

    The People's National Party (PNP) is denying reports that it has spent the $31 million it received from the Dutch <SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 600; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; POSITION: relative">oil</SPAN> trading firm Trafigura Beheer.

    <SPAN class=news_body>There have been claims that the PNP is unable to return the money as it was spent on party activities.

    The allegations were sparked by the failure of the party to return the money despite instructions issued a month ago by PNP President Portia Simpson-Miller that the <SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; POSITION: relative">funds</SPAN> be sent back.

    Deputy Campaign Director for the PNP, Paul Burke, says the reports are untrue.

    He told RJR News Tuesday night that the Trafigura funds have not yet been returned as the <SPAN class=kLink style="FONT-WEIGHT: 400; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: blue! important; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; POSITION: relative">donation</SPAN> was made in tranches and the party is making arrangements to have the money sent back in one payment.

    Mr. Burke insisted that the money had not been used by the party.

    Following the controversy surrounding the Trafigura donation, Mrs. Simpson-Miller ordered that the funds be returned.

        Yuh never hear bout the Mother of All Conferences? Yuh nuh think it tek money? Remember Portia came out complaining she had no money then all of a sudden dem put on the MOAC?

          How many weeks has passed since Portia said the money should be returned. Seems that there is no URGENCY to return it, so it's easy to assume it has been expended.
