  • Top 10 Artistes Off the Radar for 2008

    Macka Diamond
She is one artiste who had a fantastic run during 2007. A hit, Bun Him, featuring Black-er and a book of the same name. However, in 2008 she seemed to take a back seat opting to work on her Money O Sundays which is yet to find a home moving from Old Harbour to Kingston to Portmore. She even tried her hand at teaching church women how to be better in bed. (No one can question Macka's contribution to society).

    Sanchez
This crooner who is famous for his stirring cover versions, was noticeably quiet in 2008. Splash is aware of his work with the youths in the Standpipe area of St Andrew, where he has set up a recording studio.

    Wayne Marshall
Mr Cho Choo Choo seems to have lost his steam, as there was nothing from the singjay all of 2008. Seems he is channelling his energies into the career of his love interest Tami Chynn.

    Alaine
Her work with fiancé/producer, Don Corleone was legendary in 2007. This made her one of the darlings of the local music scene and she headed the list of young femmes fatales in the biz. With wedding plans on the cards, the former mortgage push-girl has been noticeably absent during the year.

    Erup
Click mi finga was one of the catchy tunes of 2008. The impact of this break-out hit was not only felt locally but crossed Jamaican shores to register favourable reponses from markets in North America.

    Everton Blender
Blenda had the music industry all mixed up a few years ago with a string of hits. There could not be a major show without this artiste. Many feel that a decision to relocate to the US has had an impact on the career
of one of the leading figures in
the return of conscious reggae to
    the dancehall.

    VoiceMail
This group was originally a quintet, but it was only when they regrouped as a trio that things began to materialise. But 2008 was a rather quiet year for Kevin, Oneil and Craig. They are clearly popular in markets such as Japan, but here at home they were rather silent.

    TOK
Flex, Bassie, Craigy T and Alastair were definitely off Reggae's radar and all we have holding on to is their work on the title track for the Guardian Angel riddim. This quartet is known to stoke the fire and get their music out there and fans are looking forward to that in 2009.

    Aidonia
He was able to arouse his hardcore fans at Sting two weeks ago, but the mainstream is not hearing enough of this artiste. Spalsh is unsure what has kept him off the radar but looks forward to a return.

    Althea Hewitt
Remember her from Fourth Street Sister, well we all know she branched off on her own and even released an album in 2008, but we have heard nothing from her album and all.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
