  • Nuff respect to Shaggy

It was really "out of many one people" as Jamaicans of every hue and from every strata of society mingled on the lawns of Jamaica House in support of a worthy cause, the Bustamante Hospital for Children. Spearheaded by diamond-selling artiste Shaggy, this project now places Shaggy that much closer to the status "icon".

Clearly driven by passion and altruism, this Jamaican (who, incidentally, doesn't even make his money in Jamaica) has been a "friend" of the hospital for several years, and this event was born out of his desire to help the hospital on a grand scale. With Robert Livingston and his Big Yard family giving full support, Shaggy assembled his peers in the music industry, most of whom were only too eager to give their services for free, for this fund-raiser.

The theme, "One ticket = one life" caught the imagination of the people and, believe it or not, it was the pricey $20,000 tickets which were snatched up first, quickly followed by the $10,000. The organisers had to eventually offer more tickets in both sections to keep apace with the demand, as Jamaicans heeded the call to support the children.

Performances were astounding - hardcore dancehall act Lady Saw, who can always be counted on to rise to any and every occasion, sang and teared up, even as the audience shed a few tears with her; Ele took voice lessons just so he could sing We Are The World, and represented well; Buju and Gramps from Morgan Heritage teamed up for their hit version of the 23rd Psalm; Tarrus Riley sang about his baby and Shaggy was the thread that connected it all as he appeared at various times during the evening, sometimes by himself and at other times in combination with various acts.

It was the show of shows and a wonderful, selfless way to start the New Year. Like all the acts declared, "Nuff respect to Shaggy."

"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Thank you for posting this news story, Lazie. I had planned to post it this morning while reading the online newspapers, but in my haste to get ready and avoid the rush-hour traffic, I completely forgot!

The subject line I had planned for that post was, "An Artist to be Emulated!" Quite simply, if entertainers are role models, then Shaggy is the type of Jamaican entertainer that SHOULD serve as a role model for all Jamaican youth. Following the example of this philanthrophist can only result in betterment for our Jamaican society!

Now Historian imagine that show multilplied by a 100 as its taken on a global tour and imagine now that instead of arguing with Movado and Vybz Kartel to change their lyrics you just ignore them and send a strong message by booking bands with conscious lyrics and strongly promoting the show and the ideals.

Now on top of that the fans are told that part of the proceeds of downloading the songs from these artists and bands goes towards this or that charity and so they jump at that as the new marketing is doing good for the children or the environment.

Now imagine that those concerts not only showcase Jamaican music but our goods and services at the booths where the fans will get a 'taste" and can then buy it off the internet etc.

do you now understand why mi say only the music can save us and its our only hope? why make it difficult when the answer is there in front of us and Bob Marley already pave the way?

We have to learn to start focusing on the positives and what we can do as oppossed to what we have no control over as it makes no sense worrying about things that we have no control over.

Right now the marketing of the future

      http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/158...03/jay_z.jhtml

is live events and selling your songs off your website. Now what music is more fan friendly than reggae music? What music spiritually uplifts you and cuts across all ethnic barriers like reggae?

Shatta has been researching this from birth and there are new developments on the horizon that the average fan isn't privy to but right now the whole game has changed and record companies are getting to be a thing of the past

      http://www.experientialforum.com/

Experiential marketing is the marketing of the future and while reggae doesn't put food in our mouths it can be the vehicle to ensure that our goods and services that employ Jamaicans back in Jamaica continue to do so and to grow.

Why not use what we already have to get what we want.

Shatta Cleve is a world renown researcher/fact finder/marketer/philantrophist etc. etc.
He is now available for lecturer tours starting at $50,000 a lecture

Shatta's mantar is " I not only live this but I do this"

the brands of the future will not only stand for something(evironment, children, global warming etc) but will need a soundtrack from a music that is world renown for standing for something.

We are the only ones who don't seem to appreciate what we have and how global reggae music is? Why reinvent the wheel?
Have you noticed that foreigners coming to Jamaica respect our music more than we do and seem to know how to capitalise on it more than us?
