Jamaica is an enigma. How can people so bright and blessed remain so poor and illiterate for so long? Our leaders have a lot to answer for, and when the nascent Cuba, with its more acrid slave history, glides into the world economy we will pay. We spend billons on universities, yet disrespect academic qualifications and expertise and our finance portfolio is the weak link, just when we need depth in economics.
