  • Former administration defends resistance to multilaterals

    Wednesday, 17 December 2008

Former Minister Dr. Omar Davies is defending the former Government's resistance to overtures from multilateral lending agencies to provide financial support to Jamaica.

The Bruce Golding administration has been boasting that its close ties with the IMF, IDB and the World Bank have paid off with Jamaica set to receive much needed liquidity support in early 2009.

But Dr. Davies said it was because of the previous administration's refusal to enter into a borrowing relationship with multi-laterals that has made it easier for the present Government to obtain financial support.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Omar a di best bwoy. Now mi a see why some ites idolize him suh. Currently a listen to him on Real Business and I still wonder why people value his opinion on anything. All of a sudden he is concerned that the gov't is driving up the debt by borrowing from the multilaterals.
