  • Transport Authority boss sent home

The board of the Transport Authority has issued a vote of no confidence in the per-formance of its Managing Director Keith Goodison.

The Gleaner yesterday obtained a copy of a letter sent to Goodison advising him that he has been placed on a 29-day leave effective immediately.

It is understood that the managing director will be transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Works where he is expected to take up the position of transport coordinator.

    Contract expired in 2009

Goodison originally had a three-year contract with the authority, which would have expired in December 2009.

When contacted yesterday, George Johnson, chairman of the Transport Authority board, declined to comment on the matter. "It's awkward timing, I am in no position to comment at this time," he said.

However, sources close to Goodison told The Gleaner yesterday that there have been several attempts in the last 14 months to remove the managing director from his post due to speculations of his political connections with the former administration.

Dr Alwin Hayles, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Works, yesterday confirmed that the managing director was being placed on leave due to a unanimous no-confidence vote.

This is what I cannot understand. There is a vote of no confidence in Mr. Goodison's performance, but he is being transferred?

    Damn!

Transport Authority Managing Director to be transferred

      Friday, 05 December 2008
Controversy is brewing over another management change at a public sector entity.

Allegations of political victimisation have surfaced amidst reports that Managing Director of the Transport Authority Keith Goodison has been sent on leave with immediate effect.

RJR News has been informed that Mr. Goodison was Thursday given a letter by Chairman of the Authority George Johnson advising that he should proceed on leave.

      Transferred

In addition, it is reported that Mr. Goodison is to be reassigned to the Ministry of Transport and Works to take up a nondescript position.

Sources close to the situation are alleging that the change is politically motivated.

Mr. Goodison was seconded from the Port Authority of Jamaica to the Ministry of Transport and Works by the previous administration two years ago.

He subsequently entered into a three year contract with the Transport Authority as Managing Director.

He has one year left in his contract. (question answered).

      Challenge

Reports reaching our news centre are that the planned transfer has not gone down well with Mr. Goodison.

It is understood that he will be challenging the move.

Mr. Goodison has reportedly written to the Chairman of the Transport Authority querying his reassignment and requesting an explanation.

Finance Manager Charles O'connor is to oversee the operations of the Authority until further notice.

Thats tantamount to a firing. He would NOT accept the job as a lowly coordinator coming from MD.

Thats how Govt fire people. Definitely not a lateral move.
