    Poor governance – PNP

The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has delivered more body blows to the Bruce Golding administration over revelations of corruption at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).

At a press conference Monday morning, Robert Pickersgill Opposition Spokesman on Transport, said the findings of the Contractor General's report point to a disturbing trend of questionable governance by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration.

Mr. Pickersgill stopped just short of calling for Transport Minister Mike Henry to resign.

According to him, Mr. Henry has a lot of explaining to do.

"The Contractor General has firmly repudiated Minister Henry's claims ... the response by Minister Henry to the Contractor General has been found to be inconsistent and incomplete at best ...at worst, it was misleading."

Mr. Pickersgill said Bindley Sangster, the current Acting Manager of the JUTC should be booted from the post in light of the Contractor General's finding that misleading statements were submitted to the Office of the Contractor General.

In addition, the Opposition Spokesman said the three members of the JUTC's Finance Committee should resign with immediate effect.

Mr. Pickersgill is also calling for a detailed audit of the operations of the entire JUTC and of all contracts entered into by the state-run bus company.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
