The end of the US dollar

No, that headline isn't about the lowly Jamaican dollar. Curiously, that hasn't been doing so badly of late. Rather, I'm talking of the United States dollar we so fetishise. Its days as a pillar of American economic dominance may be numbered... - John Rapley

Don't consider myself a guru, more like an eager student, but here is my take anyway.

I agree with a lot in the article about the US debts and reduction in global economic influence but barring something catastrophic, it will be a slow process playing out over decades. China, India, Russia and Brazil, the new kids on the block so to speak, still have a way to go but thier economic influence is already being felt across the world.

I expect the US dollar to be the currency of the world for a while though. Also as long as the US has so much control over organizations like the World Bank and the IMF, the US dollar will have an advantage over other currencies.

I hear you...but the US shall just 'reinvent' itself...and still remain a step ahead for years and years and...

...and forever until the end of time? I am sure the Roman and British empires had those same views.

The US should be a major economic and military force for the rest of our lifetimes. But not with the same dominance that it has had the last 2 decades since the fall of the Soviet Union
