  • Last night I was surprised that

BET's American Gangster series featured J. Edgar Hoover. In case you've never seen the series, its a weekly documentary about popular criminals. There was a quote from the gangster, "Some people in the civil rights movement want to be called mister. What is this world coming to?"

If he was alive to see the results of the Nov. 4th 2008 general elections he most certainly would have left this life.

It was mentioned that Senator Harry Ried put forward a bill to have his name removed from the FBI building, the agency he created. "J. Edgar Hoover's name on the FBI building is a stain on the building." (Reid). Of course the build wasn't passed.

it is ... did they mention his cross dressing and allegations of his "partner"? that was a man with some SERIOUS repressed issues!

No, but I was very much curious that they said he died alone his body was found by his help.

I googled the man and there is a section about his sexuality. I guess if the President said it, it was a popular saying.

Hoover was a lifelong bachelor, and since at least the 1940s unsubstantiated rumors have circulated that he was homosexual.[23] It has also been suggested that his long association with Clyde Tolson, an associate director of the FBI who was also Hoover's heir, was that of a gay couple.[24]
Some authors have dismissed the rumors about Hoover's sexuality and his relationship with Tolson in particular as unlikely,[25] while others have described them as probable or even "confirmed",[26] and still others have reported the rumors them without stating an opinion.[27] Hoover described Tolson as his alter ego: the men not only worked closely together during the day, but also took meals, went to night clubs and vacationed together.[28] The exceedingly close relationship between the two is often cited as evidence that the two were lovers, though some FBI employees who knew them, such as Felt, say that the relationship was merely "brotherly". Upon hearing of Hoover's death, Richard Nixon is reported to have commented "Jesus Christ, that old cocksucker!"[29]
Tolson inherited Hoover's estate worth approximately USD$551,000 and moved into his home, having also accepted the American flag that draped Hoover's casket. Tolson is buried a few yards away from Hoover in the Congressional Cemetery.

All kinda issues. The fact that he was obsessed with digging up as much dirt as possible on MLK and the Kennedys when he had his own issues also says a lot about the kind of person he was.

I wonder what would have happened if the media back then was the profit-making industry that it has become today. There is no way they would have refused to make the sex tapes he had of MLK and JFK public.

But I guess even if they did, in todays world Hoover would just release the tapes to the internet bloggers and that would force the mainstream media to address it.

True that! They did mention the sex tapes of MLK. They even interviewed a journalist who refused to make the tapes public. I laughed and said, pity there wasn't a FoxNews back then.

They did mention he had files on even the Presidents. This dude had way too much power.
