Teacher says lives at risk

The Editor, Sir:
It is high time that some serious measures be put in place to curb this upsurge of violence in schools.
A few measures were said to be put in place, but are they being carried out? Some schools received metal detectors, but are they being used? If they are being used, is it at the discretion of the administration, or to maintain discipline at all times not just when administration feel like it?
More students will die if something is not done now to stem this scourge of violence. This is just added stress-bearing in mind the kidnapping incidents taking place.
I am a teacher and I am afraid of what might happen to me. There is no insurance for us if anything should happen. Our lives are at risk. It is time the minister of education start making students responsible for their actions and stop making them out to be victims every time.
Monitor principals
It is also time the principals of the schools be monitored properly to ensure that they are doing an effective job since, after all, they are the ones in charge of the schools, not the students. The discipline and managing of the schools need urgent attention even more so now since teachers are subject to penalty if they do not perform.
In addition, so many school board members are resigning that people do not know where they stand. So please, I am pleading that teachers be given the resources to work with so that we can help students.
