  • No economic growth in third quarter

    Posted: 2008-11-17 11:56:48

The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is reporting that there was no significant growth in the economic performance of the country in the third quarter of the year.

Director General of the PIOJ, Dr. Wesley Hughes, said the financial downturn on the global financial market is among the factors leading to the decline.

He said Tropical Storm Gustav also affected the country’s economic performance.

PIOJ statistics indicate that the industry was up by 3.8 percent.

The sectors that showed some decline include the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing industry.

The Manufacture and construction industry also showed some decline.

However, the Services Industry is reported to have grown by 0.5 percent.
