Gov’t bailing-out 2 more schools
As the debate continues over the Government's bailout of the Hydel Group of Schools, the Bruce Golding administration has revealed that it is providing support to two more schools.
The institutions are reportedly struggling to keep their doors opened.
During his address to Parliament on Tuesday, Prime Minister Bruce Golding disclosed that the Government is assisting the Iona and Gaynstead High Schools.
Mr. Golding defended his administration's policy of helping schools which are not financed by taxpayers.
"It's a situation that is dealt with on a case by case basis ... where a private school is in distress and it's in the national interest for the school to be assisted we do so ... this is an assistance that we're prepared to provide funds for because it is not in the interest of the country for those school to collapse," he said.
Questions have been raised in some quarters whether the State should use public funds to assist private schools.
