The National Water Commission (NWC) is in trouble with the Ministry of Transport and Works regarding damage done to a section of the recently refurbished Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine.
The Ministry, which blamed the NWC for causing the damage that occurred during last week's heavy rains, is demanding that the Commission foot the repair bill.
A section of the corridor was damaged by floodwaters.
A statement issued last weekend by the Ministry said incomplete excavation work carried out by the NWC during road renovations by the French firm, Bouygues, was the main source of the problem.
The Ministry accused the NWC of failing to have the work area properly sealed as required to preserve the road surface.
Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry told RJR News Wednesday night that he is fed up with the NWC constantly failing to repair roads following excavation work.
He said the Commission will now be held liable for sloppy restorations.
"In fact, I've spoken to my colleague minister to ask him to have a meeting with the NWC chairman ... not because you are a part of Government so to speak, you should seek not to face up to the responsibilities and perform ... it's about the Gorge and about a lot of things that the NWC keeps doing," he said.
Mr. Henry added that the cost of the repairs to the Gorge should be known on Thursday.
