Seeing the BBC clip of people from Asia, Africa, Europe (except Russia) and Australia all in a joyous mood was really amazing.

I would be cautious about that "maturity of the US" claim though. It was not long ago that they thought a Bush second term was a good idea.

No, apart from those bible-thumping and misguided warmongering Republicans, I don't know of anyone who was happy that Bush was re-elected! The American people royally screwed up that last election. That probably explains the euphoria now.
