Thanks for acknowledging that. I feel very strongly about that. That's why, on several occasions, we Jamaicans are looked upon as Jamaicans, not black!

Is it coincidence why the other black candidate that stood a great chance of occupying the White House also had immigrant parents?

      Don't discount it, people!

Hindsight is so clear. There times in this election I thought McCain could win. All praise should go to the campaign skills of Dem team and how they used technology to get info out, raise funds and communicate. Isn't it great to Have a President who can send a text message to one that doesn't even have email?

"Hindsight is so clear" true. Maybe I went overboard but Bush was a big handicap for any republican.

Yes it is great to a 'next generation leader" who can relate to the real world. After all him might not have to go to Iran, him and their president can just blog since Iranian president also tech savy.

But you know, Exile, I don't think the label "civil rights leader" should be any candidate's death knell. What is wrong with being a civil rights leader? If that was all the person was about, then yes, maybe there would be problems. But to think that if you have been involved in civil rights should somehow disqualify you...not going to buy that.

The trouble is we are allowing the white majority to dictate to us who is acceptable to run and who is not.

Take the recent financial meltdown out of the picture and who knows what would have happened. Easy to forget now that he was dead even in the polls up until mid-September when Lehman Brothers failed and it all came tumbling down.

But yes Obama ran a nearly flawless campaign. And more than that it took it to another level in terms of the use of technology.

The JLP was also successful because of their use (abuse?) of the Internet.

Does Portia have an email address?

Get this Mo. Civil rights leader is associated with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Many whites think it means Black Power or Welfare state.

It is just like politician running from the word Liberal. No civil rights leader will not be nominated on a national level.

Maybe it is 60% of white votes in the states he won. That I could see.
Your assumption does not go down the right path - You should think first of %age of total votes Obama got that is the black vote + Latino + other minority vote.

If that percent was was less than 40% of his total vote count...then that figure quoted by Lazie would be correct!
                          Right?

It sure is difficult to 'hate' who you share that tender feeling that overwhelms when you 'sleep' together.

I think I know that. But I don't agree with it. It's civil rights that got Obama where he is today.
