But you know, Exile, I don't think the label "civil rights leader" should be any candidate's death knell. What is wrong with being a civil rights leader? If that was all the person was about, then yes, maybe there would be problems. But to think that if you have been involved in civil rights should somehow disqualify you...not going to buy that.

The trouble is we are allowing the white majority to dictate to us who is acceptable to run and who is not.

Get this Mo. Civil rights leader is associated with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Many whites think it means Black Power or Welfare state.

The reason I question it is that he got less than 60% of the overall vote, and since he got more than 90% of blacks and 60% of Latinos, it don't add up.

Maybe it is 60% of white votes in the states he won. That I could see.

Your assumption does not go down the right path - You should think first of %age of total votes Obama got that is the black vote + Latino + other minority vote.

If that percent was was less than 40% of his total vote count...then that figure quoted by Lazie would be correct!

AAH an ten years from now; those
actions in Europe will look backwards and primitive. It took vision and courage to come up with the civil rights amendment (hence averting descending to third world status). This time financial crisis has caused the US to change to yet a higher gear.

As I said when I was posting on the "Age of Tan"..the coming of "Tan"...the world's population becoming "Tan"...it is the opportunities our children are grabbing to increasingly sleep with one another that is 'kicking down' barriers. It sure is difficult to 'hate' who you share that tender feeling that overwhelms when you 'sleep' together.
