Dear Editor,
I was looking forward to meeting Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller in Brussels on October 25 as this would be my first time sitting in the same room with her, and to hear about the future plans for Jamaica "straight from the horse's mouth". I was even planning to ask her to sign my letter "Phillips, Blythe, Davies don't have much to offer Jamaica", which came out in the Observer on December 9, 2005.
On October 23, our embassy sent an email to Jamaican citizens in Brussels inviting us to a meeting with the prime minister. Here's the text: "The Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica, will be in Brussels on Wednesday, 25 October, 2006 and has requested to meet with the Jamaican community. As a result of Prime Minister Simpson Miller's tight schedule, the meeting will take place between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm sharp at the Embassy of Jamaica, 77 Avenue Hansen Soulie, 1040 Brussels."
Then we got another email: "Further to this Embassy's email dated 23 October 2006, we regret to inform that the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica, will not be able to travel to Brussels as previously scheduled. In that regard, her planned meeting with the Jamaican community has had to be postponed until a later date. The Embassy will certainly let you know when another opportunity arises to hold this meeting."
We also saw in your newspaper that a planned meeting with the EU president was put off because of "family health emergency".
I think that whenever Jamaica is invited to talks with the European Union the country should grab that opportunity. The prime minister needs to tell her family that getting sick when the EU invites her to a meeting is not a good idea. I still look forward to meeting her.
Hero Scott

Same one, good youth who did very well for himself...used to play for Seba United, then went away to some Nordic country where he played some semi-pro and now seems to have settled in Belgium.
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.
