Cabinet has approved the implementation of a Junior Market on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).
On Monday, Senator Don Wehby, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, announced that the initiative will be introduced in conjunction with the JSE.
Small and medium-sized enterprises will list their shares on the Junior Stock Market.
It will target businesses that have market capitalization of between $50 and $500 million and which could not raise capital through commercial loans because they lack the necessary security.
A steering committee will be established to ensure implementation within the next three to six months.
The committee will comprise representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, the Financial Services Commission, the Registrar of Companies, the Institute of Chartered Accountants od Jamaica, the Accountant General and the Ministry of Industry.
