Rapist cop arrested
A policeman has been taken into custody for the alleged rape of a female colleague.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green, said the policeman was interviewed yesterday and a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions is being awaited.
The Gleaner reported last Tuesday that the woman constable was raped while on duty. In that report the woman said that her superiors were not acting on the report with urgency. The constable also claimed that some of her colleagues were doing everything to thwart her efforts to get justice.
It is understood that the woman has since been reassigned and is receiving full support from the constabulary. The incident had drawn outrage from several quarters, with senior members of the police force condemning the act.
