  • OCG probes AA/GOJ deal

    Monday, 08 September 2008

The Office of the Contractor General (OCG) is to probe the controversial air-lift guarantee deal between the government and American Airlines (AA).

In a release issued on Monday, the OCG said it has written to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism requesting the full particulars of the deal.

The OCG requisition was copied to Tourism Minister Tourism Edmund Bartlett; Godfrey Dyer, Chairman of the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF); Ian Neita, Executive Director of the TEF and Ambassador Douglas Chambers, Cabinet Secretary.

Among the particulars which have been requisitioned by the OCG are an Executive Summary outlining the alleged agreement, the manner in which the agreement was negotiated, how it was procured, the names and titles of all those involved in the negotiation and the approvals received to facilitate the conclusion of the agreement.

The OCG has also requisitioned copies of all Cabinet submissions and decisions regarding the matter; copies of all National Contracts Commission (NCC) and Cabinet approvals on the issue, copies of all correspondence between AA and the government about the deal, as well as minutes from all TEF Board Meetings on the issue and a copy of the alleged contract.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism has until 4pm September 19, 2008 to provide the documents.

    Damn?!
    The Contractor-General has come alive...

    ...or was he underminded?
An underling became so outraged that the underling sent out the requests and then informed the Contractor-General how it was realised that that is what he would have wanted? Underling to Contractor-General with face turning red from trying to keep a straight face: Among other things I am protecting your back, sir!

      "Damn?!
      The Contractor-General has come alive..."
      • Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.
