  • Last night while watching the GOP

nominee give his cure for insomnia presentation last night, I was very much amused. EVERY speech given at this convention made sure to highlight McCain's military service, and those in the audience quickly rose to their feet. Then I started wondering, where was the admiration for McCain in 2000 when he was running against the man that was "born with a golden foot in his mouth?"

Once again, I must say that Obama erred when he distanced himself from General Wesley Clark's point that being a POW does make one a good leader. Now, how are they going to counter that?

Except for the service record, McCain's speech last night sounded very much like George Bush to me. Am I the only one that got that impression?

Lazie understand that they touted Bush Military service as well. Remember that they are both from "Military family". The fact is they are running against someone without and to many a these military family them nah vote fi nobody else who didn't serve.

While his speach was not captivating as I only saw part but it has it audience and they tried to milk it.

Obama had to distance himself from Wesley Clark as he don't need to fight McCain on any personal military issue, he simply can't win that one.

Did anybody see McCain mother? The woman look good at 95. The war is on right now, it will be interesting to see the polls. You have to understand that the republic is not catering for us black anymore they are trying to reach the suburb and the white voters.

Excellent point, Lazie! In addition, being a prisoner of war gives one "bragging rights" (to put it rather crudely here) about patriotism and contribution to one's country. Certainly a former POW looks good on the resume of any candidate, regardless of country to which that person belongs!

McCain's speech was relaxed and largely non-confrontational. Trust me, this general election in november will be closer than many people probably realize!

        ....

It is obvious that Obama cannot say anything about McCain's service ... General Wesley Clark was the PERFECT surrogate to say so ... and did. All Obama had to point out is that Clark like McCain served the country and is very much entitled to express his opinion. Inside, he shut up Clark and now see thats what the GOP wants to use to put McCain in the White House.

The truth is that African-Americans make up a mere 13% (actually, slightly less) of the total American population, so the Republicans can afford not to "cater to us anymore." In any case, many inner city blacks do not even bother to vote!

To me it is even worse than that.

The Republicans are actually hijacking Obamas message and running on a CHANGE ticket after controlling the presidency for the last 8 years and the Congress for 10 of the last 12. And they are getting away with it too.

Problem for the Obama crew is both McCain and Palin can point to record of having bucked the status quo and effected 'serious' change.
"Done it before, will continue to do it" seems to be their message? Right?
