  • Enforce municipal policing

There are calls for the local parish authorities to adopt a zero tolerance approach to the level of lawlessness that presently exits in the country's township.

Coordinator for the island's Municipal Police Programme Dorothy Delgado said since the start of the programme, Councils have failed to effectively use the Municipal Police in tackling problems.

"We didn't get the buy-in from the political directorate and some aspect of administration but we foresee that this enforcement capacity will put the Council in a position to bring back law and order, particularly in respect of the areas that fall within their purviews.
They would then be able to police and bring some level of compliance," she said.

Mrs. Delgado was speaking at the Municipal Police graduation ceremony at the Police Academy in Twickenham Park St. Catherine on Friday.
Twenty two persons were installed as Municipal officers and will be placed in the parishes of Hanover and St. James.
