SLB to get financial boost Friday, 22 August 2008 The Students'75IJM Bureau will soon be getting a financial boost, as the Government looks at ways to increase the pool of funds available for tertiary education.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding made the disclosure Thursday night during a meeting with Education Minister Andrew Holness, to get an update on the progress of the Education Transformation Programme.
Mr. Golding said the government is also contemplating waiving some of the repayment.
However, in order to benefit, will have to pursue studies in areas where the skills level is low in Jamaica and give back by working in those areas.
In the meantime, the EducationMinister told the meeting that plans are far advanced for the setting up of the Jamaica Teaching Council and the National Inspectorate.
Mr. Holness also announced that the Ministry will establish a National Education Trust to assist with the construction of 112 new schools.
