wha happen if him a nuh badman and bullet ketch him?
You think a one time mi see police put charge pon innocent youths?
Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.
Listen, right ya now we can't concern bout the "innocent youths" again. Youths being innocent a thing of the past. Police nah igle and jus see a bredda and buss shot pon him. Wha u believe? Dat story played out. Mi get draw in fi a bun spliff already. Mi deh pon corner and look suspicious and "innocent" and di man dem do dem ting, jus carry mi a station fi frighten mi. Mi nuh inna mix up so mi neva a fret bout dem a plant gun pon mi. Di man dem do dem ting deh to known killas.
The JFF don't have to agree to anything as long as the politicians do their work and do it good it is fine.
We have too much dislike for opposition, opposition can be good. The last time I check JFJ never a fire nuh guns or tell nobody fi shoot anybody.
Long live people who have purpose and take on the plight of the masses and bring it to the politician doorstep.
So, wouldn't you say that what the government is doing by at last taking strong steps to fight crime is an example of taking on "the plight of the masses"? What will it take for Jamaica to reach what Ian Boyne refers to as "the tipping point" for Jamaicans to realize that our country, as far as violent crime is concerned, is not your typical society gone wrong? Opposition is essential for balance and real democracy, but opposition must also be responsible and not ad hoc!
I am not arguing that JFJ and other human rights groups do not serve a purpose!!! They DO serve a very, very important purpose, as they balance the scale between state manipulation and arrogance on the one hand with fundamental regard for basic human rights on the other. So, for the record, I fully endorse the existence of the very courageous Dr. Carolyn Gomes and the many other human rights like her! I mean this!
My contention, rather, is that Jamaica's human rights groups (JFJ included) need to recognize that while Jamaica's problems require long term measures if they are to be overcome (education, proper jobs, modernization of inner city communities, etc.), the gunmen are not going to wait around for these long term measures! Thus, while the medium and long-term measures are absolutely necessary, short term steps such as those proposed by the Bruce Golding government are vital in the fight to save Jamaica from Jamaica!!
What is so difficult in all of this for the human rights groups to understand?

What if the Wolfe report was implemented from as far back as 1994? Where would we be 14 years later?
There are short term measures that the security forces/govt. could implement right now, ones that would be more meaningful than those presented by the PM! But where is the will?!?! And not just of this govt.
Don't be fooled - the HRO are not the problem! They have a full understanding of the problem and are not nearly as ignorant as some of us may feel.
U can swear fi people? Michael Gayle a the only unfortunate case cause him mentally ill. The police should've approached that better still but they wouldn't know he was mentally challenged. Right now JA dont need people fighting against the police. A drastic times now. An innocent man more likely to get murdered by a criminal than a police. Man all a kill man a ghetto cause dem a go school and dont want join gangs. A dat unnuh fi comment pon.

I have to admit that I fully (100%) agree with you on this post, Mosiah!
Also, despite my frustrating comment, I know that the human rights organizations are not the problem in Jamaica, which is why I completely support their existence!
You hit the nail squarely on the head when you asked the very relevant question, "But where is the will?" Many times I, too, wonder why is it that the more things change in Jamaica politically, the more things remain the same!! I, too, am disappointed with the measures presented by the PM, as better recommendations have been made over the past decade or two and even now some of those could have been adopted!
It's at times like these when I am forced to ask myself if Jamaica wouldn't be better off with smart high schoolers running the country? I am certain that things would not have been worse!
How many times man and man get killed by police fi spliff? Ansa dat!
Consider yuhself lucky, Lionpaw. There are nuff in society who feel dat people who bun spliff nuh up to no good, so if dem get dust out, a nuh nutten.
Count your blessings!
Count which blessings? Mi know say mi annuh badman so mi behave accordingly. Deal wid it respectfully. Nuff man get catch wid spliff and a mumble mumble and a kiss up teeth like dem want send threat. Mi jus say officer, sorry bout this, wont mek it happen again. Gwan do ur job. Only way a police ago kill me a if a stray shot or mi tek him woman and him frame and kill me.

Careful Lionpaw ... you seem to tek what the police say as gospel. I wonder what you'd expect others to believe if you end up being labelled a gunman by the police.
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Dem can label mi all dem want. Nuttin cant stick pon me. Mi mek sure live my life in a way dat people have only good things fi say bout I. Str8 and narrow mi say. At the same time, di man dem a do what in dem power fi stem the rise in the crime rate. Nuttin more dem can do. Di criminal dem more ruthless than them, plus dem a get backative from JFG(Jamaicans for Gunmen).

While I support the measures put in place and even stronger ones the JFJ and others have to be there to play their roles. I have seen too many INNOCENT youths been hurt by police and scare them fi life.
Putting false charge on youths. Beating up youths for no other reason than because somebody in the area rob a shop and so the whole district a youth feel it although they are law abiding and know nothig about it.
There are some areas and not only high crime areas but also areas all over Jamaica when a man see a police car the first thing come to mind is run. How can they solve problem if the citizens see them as only power. I remember been in Kingston at certain areas and street clean, nobody nuh deh pon road, whether out East, Kencot or Constant Spring and only to find out is because Trinity, Bigga Ford or Laing in the area.
It didn't stop crime from been committed but a nuff man whether they are guilty or not guilty get some big licks from police. There as to be constant oversight by the these groups. They may not get it all right and they maybe slow to see changes but they have their reasons to be sceptical.
Mrs Gomes said she don't mind some of the things in the crime package by the way and also Bruce Golding pay a visit so they know what was coming and hopefully changed a few things.
