Cherine Anderson and Sly & Robbie "Give it to" Madonna

Legendary producers Sly & Robbie have churned out another "blazin" tune. This time the artist requesting the track was none other than arguably the world's largest pop icon, Madonna. Madonna was a fan of Sly & Robbie and Cherine Anderson's amazing remix of the Britney Spears' song "Piece of Me", and wanted the magic of the trio on her new single, "Give It 2 Me" (the second single off her new album Hard Candy).

The hands-on Madonna was so impressed by the work of the Riddim Twins and Cherine that she chose several of their mixes to be released. Now available via iTunes are two mixes, "Sly & Robbie Ragga Mix" and "Sly & Robbie Bongo Mix".

Cherine was truly thrilled to have the opportunity to work on a project with the queen of re-invention. "I grew up listening to Madonna and in college her songs were huge on the dance floor. It's always great fun working with Sly & Robbie. It's a huge honor to be featured on this remix."

To say I'm happy that Cherine Anderson was involved in this project is an understatement! This unquestionably talented young lady has been paying her dues in the entertainment industry since her teens, and today she remains one of the many positive young influences on our culture!

Hopefully, this project will not be limited merely to iTunes, but will eventually make it big on the American and European charts. I cannot forget that Shaggy's monster seller "It Wasn't Me" (and the album "Hot Shot" as well) came about after it was downloaded from an MP3 site on the Internet by a deejay in Hawaii. The rest ia now history as CD sales of "Hot Shot" garnered a diamond platinum status and earned Shaggy the prestigious awards of "Male Artist of the Year" and "Male Album Artist of the Year" at the 2001 Billboard Music Awards ceremony.

The combination of Cherine Anderson and Sly & Robbie is always a most welcome one!

Another recording by Cherine Anderson that you should add to your play list, Gamma, is "Kingston State of Mind." It's a very good recording (I believe it was also produced by Sly & Robbie).

It's quite amazing, but at the present time there's no female singer in Jamaica who, in my opinion, is not doing a great job! I'm talking here about right across the various genres, from the culture reggae of ladies like Etana and Queen Ifrica to the pop-rock fusion-type products of Tessanne Chin, Tammi Chin, Kris Kelly, Alaine, Brick & Lace, etc., to the dancehall sounds of Cecile, Danielle, Macka Diamond, etc.

Despite decades of being "second class citizens" in the blatantly sexist Jamaica recorded music environment, the ladies today are taking our music to even greater levels!

I haven't heard a whole lot but as I said on this forum reggae is alive and well only that it is mostly played in places that majority of us can't hear as these DJ force the badman chune down our throats.

Yes, I bigged up Macka Diamond, and she has shown tremendous improvement since her "Lady Mackerel" (stupid name!) days. Incidentally, one of my favourite music videos for 2007 was "Bun Him". I also listen to Spice occasionally.

Of course, I much prefer Queen Ifrica and Etana (I would marry Etana tomorrow if I could)!

My least favourite artist in the history of Jamaican music, bar none, is Vybz Kartel!

Now, the next thing I'm going to do (next week) is compile my Top 10 All-Time Favourite Music Videos! You will no doubt be surprised when you see Assassin's "Boring Gal" high on the list!
