Gunman beats bus driver <DIV class=KonaBody>
Stupidity is not a good trait to have when one is involved in a criminal line of work.
A gunman learnt this lesson on Saturday, when he gunbutted the driver of a bus he was robbing. It was his last lesson however, as after hitting the driver, the vehicle crashed, resulting in the robber's death.
The bizarre incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. along Portmore Parkway in Portmore, St. Catherine. Police later identified the robber as Andrew Bailey of Four Paths, Clarendon.
Police told THE STAR that Bailey was a passenger on a Toyota Hiace Bus registered PC4000 plying the Portmore to Spanish Town route. The bus was proceeding along Portmore Parkway when Bailey reportedly pulled a gun and attempted to rob the driver and passengers.
The police say he ordered the driver to stop, but the driver refused. Bailey then gunbutted the driver who lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked truck along the roadway. Five persons, including Bailey and the driver, sustained injuries and were taken to Spanish Town Hospital where Bailey died while undergoing treatment. The others were admitted in serious condition.
Taurus revolver
The St. Catherine South Police who are investigating say that the weapon used in the attempted robbery, a Taurus revolver, with serial number erased and six rounds of ammunition, was handed over to them.
Police say Bailey was the third robber to have died since Thursday.
The body of another robber was found in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, on Friday after he attempted to rob a group of men on Thursday. Police say about 10 a.m., on Thursday, some men were playing dominoes in the area when they were held up by a gunman who demanded money. One of the men held on to the gunman and during an ensuing struggle, the gunman was disarmed and stabbed. He, however, managed to run off into nearby bushes.
The illegal gun was not handed over to the police. The alleged gunman's body was discovered about 9 a.m. the following day. He is not yet identified. He is believed to be in his late 20s and was clad in blue jeans pants, a grey and blue T-shirt and a pair of green and white Nike sneakers.
The other robber met his death on Thursday when he and several gunmen robbed Chin's wholesale in Discovery Bay, St. Ann. He was shot dead after police intercepted them and a shoot-out occurred.
Police say about 2 p.m., a group of gunmen entered the wholesale and robbed the cashier and patrons of over $80,000. They drove off in a Toyota Corolla motor car, which was stolen from a motorist near the wholesale.
The police, who were alerted, saw the vehicle shortly after and signalled the driver to stop. The gunmen in the vehicle opened fire at the officers before, it came to a stop. The police returned fire, hitting one of them. The other robbers escaped. A 9-mm pistol with nine rounds of ammunition was taken from the injured man, who is believed to be in his 30s. He was taken to the St. Ann's Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
