Staff at JUTC’s headquarters to be relocated following death threats Tuesday, 15 July 2008 In the wake of fresh concerns about the safety of some Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) workers Transport Minister Mike Henry has ordered the relocation of administrative staff from the Spanish Town depot.
RJR News has been informed that the workers are to be moved to another location as they continue to receive threats.
Communications Manager in the Ministry of Transport Reginald Allen said the relocation is among several changes being made following the murder of late JUTC Chairman Douglas Chambers.
The Ministry has promised to continue providing security to all employees who have been threatened with violence.
It has also been announced that the Ministry will be doing an audit of all disputes at the JUTC.
Deputy Chairman appointed
Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Fund Rae Barrett has been appointed the Deputy Chairman of the JUTC.
The appointment is an interim one and Mr. Barrett will have some responsibility for the daily operations of the state-run bus company.
Transport Minister Mike Henry who has been in charge of the JUTC Board since Mr. Chambers was gunned down will continue to act as Chairman.
Mr. Henry confirmed Mr. Barrett's appointment which he said is part of efforts to ensure the smooth management of the JUTC.
