Cops cut down suspect in JUTC boss' murder
Saturday, July 12, 2008
A man police believed to be one of the killers in the June 27 murder of Jamaica Urban Transit Company chairman, Douglas Chambers, was shot dead in an alleged shoot-out with the police in Spanish Town, St Catherine last evening.
Police said the man, a reputed member of the Spanish Town-based Klansman gang, engaged the cops in a shoot-out on Jones Avenue in the old capital when he was cut down.
The man, whose name was last night being withheld by the police, was being sought by the investigators after Chambers was shot dead at the entrance of the JUTC head office in Twickenham Park three Fridays ago, shortly after he took a break from a meeting with union leaders and managers of the state-owned bus company to discuss job cuts.
Chambers was accorded an Official Funeral yesterday at the Sts Peter & Paul Catholic church in Kingston. His body will be cremated next week.
