    Re: Mark King

I just did a quick check here and saw your message, Gamma.

I completely forgot to check out bassist Mark King! I'm heading out for a while now, but will definitely check online when I return later, including YouTube.

    Thanks for the reminder!

      Gamma - Mark King!

Gamma, you were absolutely correct on this one!

This guy Mark King is unbelievably good, and without question among the very best bass guitarists I’ve ever seen/heard (and I’ve heard a lot of great ones). He really doesn’t really need a band, as with his bass he is his own rhythm, harmony and melody section!

I just finished watching, for the second time this morning, “Mark King Live at the Jazz Café” on YouTube. He was playing the selection, “Mr. Pink” with a live band, and he has an incredible technique and control! His style is a solid percussive one, and he uses the entire fretboard with great effect. In fact, it’s not every day that one sees a white man with the same level of street funk as, say, Marcus Miller or Stanley Clarke! Watching and listening to Mark King just now, I was reminded of greats like Clarke, Miller, Victor Wooten and the late Jaco Pastorious. He’s definitely in the category of the real greats!

Thanks for the intro to this amazing bass player, Gamma! I'm now going to check out some more of his stuff online.
