  • No shady deals here – JUTC Board

The Board of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is denying allegations of questionable contracts issued by the state-run entity.

A newspaper report last weekend raised questions about JUTC contracts including some allegedly issued to criminal gangs.

The Board, however, said there was no truth to the claims.

JUTC Director Bindley Sangster insisted that he and other Board members were unaware of a contract being issued to any gang.

"There is no such knowledge by anyone on the Board of any connection of contracts with gangs politically or otherwise affiliated. We know of no gangs that have TRN's (Taxpayers Registration Number) and are registered with the National Contracts Commission which are some of the requirements for contracts to be awarded," said Mr. Sangster.

Regarding an $800,000 contract issued to a company linked to the late Chairman Douglas Chambers, the Board said the transaction was subject to the normal competitive procurement process.

It said Mr. Chambers had informed the Board of his connection with the company.

The Board also dismissed reports that the JUTC is paying 28% more than the market rate for fuel.

It explained that existing fuel arrangements were in place before the present Board took office.

The Sunday Herald has already proven itself right on at least one aspect of Dougie's actions. Let's see what happens from here.

                Better to watch paint dry...

The only news of consequence is the heroic efforts by Mr. Chambers.

What exactly is the agenda here ?

What agenda? If there are shady contracts then the CG must investigate. Never heard you talk about agenda when it came to light bulbs!

There is fraud involved here ???

Is this part of a general investigation by the Herald on contracts issued by all the Govt Agencies ?

Got any articles from the Herald on the JUTC activities BEFORE Chambers kickup rumpus.. or Herald just higher new staff ?

Expound please. It has come to light that the company went through the bidding process like everybody else.
