  • Knight sparks barbs in Senate

    published: Saturday | July 5, 2008

    Daraine Luton, Staff Reporter
SHARP BARBS were a feature of Friday's sitting of the Senate and old-timer K.D. Knight was at the centre of it.
Knight, who has taken a liking to Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dorothy Lightbourne, found himself on the receiving end of some harsh treatment from some government Senators after poking at her.

"You are fumbling again," Knight said to Lightbourne in his usual low-tone voice.

Before he could get by with the comment, Dennis Meadows, Desmond McKenzie and Andre Franklin - all government Senators came to the defence of Lightbourne.
    Urged to show respect
"You are a big man K.D. Knight, you are an elder statesman and you should behave like one. Show some respect for the woman. It is time you behave like a big man," Franklin shouted.
Lightbourne was not going to be left out of the action. She told Knight he had a problem and that she would be praying for him.
"The truth is that he is just an unhappy man," she said "I hold you in my prayers."
Knight reacted, saying he was happy to know that Lightbourne prayed. He did not respond to the comment that he was unhappy, but admitted that he had a problem.

"I do have a problem. I have a problem with incompetence," he jabbed at Lightbourne, who is the leader of government business in the Senate.
Knight also used the words 'grub' and 'cretin' to refer to at least one Government Senator.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

All dislikable people. I liked Lightbourne, but her incompetence seems a bit overwhelming recently.
