With Monday marking the end of the first phase of the tax amnesty, the Tax Department said its collectorates islandwide are experiencing a massive influx of people hoping to qualify for the 100% waiver of interest and penalties.
However, Director of Public Relations at the Tax Administration Services Meris Haughton said there have been no reports of problems.
"Well so far it's a large crowd but a well behaved crowd and they realize it is the last day for them to benefit from the 100% tax amnesty...persons have waited until this time but we have everything to accommodate them. At some of our smaller offices we have placed tents on the outside and we have ensured that all of our cashier stations have been manned," said Ms. Haughton.
At the close of business on Thursday collections under the tax amnesty stood at $3.4 billion.
The second phase begins on Tuesday and ends on July 31.
