  • Jamaican soldier killed in Afghanistan honoured by NY

New York State flags will fly at half staff on Friday in honour of a Jamaican-born soldier and his two colleagues who were killed in Afghanistan last weekend.

Sergeant Andrew Seabrooks, 36, of Queens, New York and the other soldiers were travelling through Kandahar when their vehicle was attacked on June 21.

Sergeant Seabrooks migrated from Jamaica to New York City as a child.

He attended the Automotive High School and then enlisted in the National Guard 101st Calvary.

New York Governor, David Patterson, on Wednesday expressed regret on behalf of the citizens of the State.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
