Five face joint murder rap
Five men were formally charged yesterday for the shooting death of 52-year-old security guard Gilbert Davis, who was gunned down at the Island Village car park in Ocho Rios, St Ann, earlier this month.
Charged with murder, robbery with aggravation and conspiracy to robbery are Jason Mills 30, a security guard; 40-year-old Rowe Gentles, a construction worker; Daniel Whorms, 30, Michael Patterson, 36, a taxi operator, all of St Ann addresses. Charged also is Paul Gayle, 34, of Cumberland, St Catherine.
The men were charged following intensive investigations. Gayle and Gentles are facing additional charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
The Constabulary Communication Network reported that about 10:15 a.m. on June 2, a team of security guards went to an establishment at Main Street in Ocho Rios.
While at the location, Davis was reportedly left to secure the motor vehicle while the others went inside the building.
Shortly after, he was ap-proached by a group of gunmen who opened fire killing him on the spot.
The gunmen then escaped taking the motor vehicle and an undetermined sum of money.
A police team in the Ocho Rios area reportedly saw the vehicle and gave chase during which the vehicle crashed. The men reportedly managed to escape. The five men charged were picked up following investigations.
