  • Gov’t collects over $2bil in back taxes

The tax authorities are reporting that they have collected just over $2 billion in outstanding taxes since the announcement of the Amnesty on April 11th. Fifteen hundred new taxpayers have also used the opportunity to register and pay outstanding amounts.
Business persons and individuals who owe back taxes have just one week to take up the 100% waiver offer.
    It ends on June 30th.

Under the Tax Amnesty, waivers of interest and penalties will be granted across all tax types at reducing rates, once the principal sum owed is paid in full.

In addition to the 100% relief on payments made by June 30th, relief on interest and penalties will also be granted in subsequent months at reduced rates.
The Tax Administration Services Department said payments made by July 31st will get a relief of 80%, those by August 31st, 50% and those by September 30th, 40%.
Payments made by October 31st will see a 20% relief.
