Negotiations have formally commenced regarding a new wage and fringe benefits contract for rank and file members of the Police Force.
The first negotiating meeting was held Monday with members of the executive of the Police Federation and officials of the Ministry of Finance.
Members of the Federation have been tight-lipped on the outcome of the talks.
The parties are to return to the table on Tuesday when efforts will continue to hammer out a wage deal for the 2008/2010 contract period.
The Federation has already served notice that it will be firm in negotiations for increased wage and fringe benefits.
The group was among several unions that did not join the third Public Sector Memorandum of Understanding which was signed in April.
