12% increase in gov’t collection Thursday, 22 May 2008 The Ministry of has released encouraging news regarding inflows into its coffers.
Finance Minister Audley Shaw said the got off to a good start with revenue for April exceeding targets.
Mr. Shaw said collections were 12% higher than projected.
According to Mr. Shaw, this is a positive sign that the Government is on track to achieve its revenue target for 2008/2009.
Regarding the ongoing amnesty, the Finance Minister said more than $2 billion has been collected since the programme was announced a month ago.
Two-point-one billion dollars was raked in, of which $1.1 billion was for tax arrears.
