True, and we have the offices to ensure they comply, including the prime minister's, as was demonstrated! But lynch jobs by a rival company that uses a "newspaper" to try and make the issue much bigger then it is, is not balance.
Bad publicity will do that you and yours everytime. A couple other bad moves were made I believe. 1) Someone should've intervened by calling a quick meeting with the Spanish Ambassador prior to all this being made into a public embarassment for RIU. And 2) Bruce should've handled or use more diplomacy in dealling with the situation. The bottom line is that no one, especially big-time investors/spenders, take kindly to a public whipping.
Clearly RIU were in violation and their people should've taken more care not to be in breaches of certain regulations. But as with most big-money people they thought they were untouchable considering the magnitude of their investments.
Bottom line is that all care should've been exhausted in bringing the dispute to an amicable end and to the satisfaction of both parties. And yes, it did not help that the opportunistic newspaper hounded the story!

"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Investors are aggressive everywhere there are investors. These people are 'born risk-takers' who constantly push the envelop.
They are guilty of violations AND corrupting the course of local Govt affairs in Jamaica.
Frankly, I would prison one of them as an example.
I know that sometimes an investigation, indictment, trial, guilty verdict and sentencing are tiresome and trivial but............. could you wait for that before the imprisonment??
Recognizing the victims of Jamaica's horrendous criminality and exposing the Dummies like Dippy supporting criminals by their deeds.. or their silence.
