Contractor-General begins probe into sale of Air J London slots
The Office of the Contractor-General has formally commenced investigations into the sale of Air Jamaica's slots at Britain's Heathrow Airport.
Contractor-General Greg Christie told the RJR News Centre that a letter was sent to Minister Without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance Don Wehby on Thursday advising that the probe had started.
Finance Minister Audley Shaw announced the investigation during his closing presentation to the Budget Debate on Wednesday.
Reiterating his previous stance that the slots were sold too cheaply, the Finance Minister accused the People's National Party administration of gross dereliction of duty in the manner it disposed of them.
Landing gates and slots were sold for ₤5 million in a controversial deal signed between Air Jamaica and Virgin Atlantic early last year.
